Brahma Viharas, the Divine Abodes

First Thursday of every month

Brahma Vihara meditation is designed to cultivate beneficial mind states of goodwill, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity. Consistent practice of Brahma Vihara meditation can open the heart and bring peace and happiness. It can be practiced independently, or as a support to other forms of meditation, such as mindfulness and concentration.

Jeff Haozous will lead a 30 min guided meditation, followed by a Dharma Talk and discussion. This drop-in class is open to those new to practice as well as those with an established meditation practice.

ABOUT THE TEACHER

Jeff Haozous has taught meditation at Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Insight Meditation Society, Vallecitos Mountain Retreat Center and at groups in Arizona, New Mexico and Oklahoma. He is a graduate of Spirit Rock’s Teacher Training program.

He the former Chairman of the Fort Sill Apache Tribe, the successor of the Chiricahua Apache that were removed from Arizona and imprisoned for over 27 years. Jeff is the great, great grandson of Apache chief Mangas Coloradas, great, great nephew of Apache chief Cochise, and cousin of Geronimo.

In addition to insight meditation which he’s practiced since 1996, Jeff has participated in numerous Apache ceremonies. He’s currently researching the commonalities between Buddhist and Apache spiritual practices. His teaching schedule and contact information is listed at indigenousinsight.org.
