Fall 2022 Practice Period

You are invited to join our Sangha wide Fall Practice Period. The focus will be The Three Centers of Deep Listening. Doing these practices with the support of Teachers, Sangha and daily teachings increases their potency. Join us!

The Three Centers of Deep Listening

This Practice Period will deepen the listening skills we explored last year. We learned how listening is integral to meditation and Awakening. It means being open and receptive to what arises within, as well as to the world around us. By not listening and living in a culture of distraction we have collectively lost our way. Thich Nhat Hanh gave us this advice about the Climate Crisis: “The most important thing that we can do is to hear within ourselves the sounds of the Earth crying.” And not only the Earth but many of its inhabitants who are crying at the loss of safe and livable habitats. And how many others need to be heard as victims of unjust and cruel mistreatment by unfeeling systems of oppression and greed.

Kwan Yin, the goddess of compassion, is known as “the one who hears the cries of suffering.” She carries a healing potion and freely offers it to those in need. Deep listening heals wounds and creates connections beyond what we know. It activates and strengthens the three centers of head, heart, and belly, giving us a greater capacity to be effective in our response. Through learning to listen from each of the centers, we deepen our connection to wisdom and love.

May we become a listening presence in the world, and a gift to all who need to be heard.
