Working With The Super Ego / Inner Critic
led by Tina Rasmussen
6:00-7:30pm MST
Note: Nov 5- Mar 9, Arizona is on Mountain Standard Time.
One of the gifts of our current era is the scientific discoveries of psychology that enable us to understand the nuts and bolts of how the psyche works and is structured. Adding this knowledge to our Buddhist practice can enable us to work with our psychology more skillfully, with the potential to digest and even move beyond the ego-self as our identity. One of the aspects that is essential to work with on the spiritual path is the SuperEgo, because its job is to keep the ego-self in place. So, when we start to move beyond our habitual patterns—that cause suffering—the SuperEgo will work diligently to get us back into those ego patterns! If we don’t see the SuperEgo for what it is, we will unconsciously be sabotaging our practice and limiting our unfoldment.
The Buddha did the best he could 2600 years ago, but often Buddhism used renunciation and the reinforcement of spiritual ideals (which the ego then grabs on to), which aren’t the most effective options if we are to live as householders in worldly life. Tina will explain what the SuperEgo/Inner Critic is and how it works, and provide ways of working with it directly. This increases the likelihood that our patterns can be truly liberated and digested—rather than suppressed or repressed into the unconscious—so that we can truly be free of them in a lasting way.
There will be instructions and meditation, and periods of teaching and Q&A. Join us by clicking the button below. This drop-in class is open to those new to practice as well as those with an established mindfulness practice.
